Oakleigh Brown Owls - June Meet up

Whoops, we blinked and it was June!

Source: Joathina via Flickr

Here are the details of the next Brown Owls meeting:

Date: Wednesday 9th of June 2010
Time: 8 - 9pm (but you are welcomed to stay on if you like!)
Location: Oakleigh RSL - 95-97 Drummond St, Oakleigh

Some things to note:

We will be having our very own knitting and crocheting expert along to the meeting so please bring along your knitting needles or crocheting needles if you'd like to join in with the team activity of the evening. If you are a knitting / crocheting beginner or newbie and don't have the needles / yarn required , please shoot me an email and I'll try to arrange for extras to be brought for you.

The older members will also note that we have now moved to a weekday evening instead of the previous Saturday afternoon. Many have voted that they prefer evenings, so hopefully this will see a much larger turn out at the crafting circle!

If you don't want to join in with knitting or crocheting, that's okay too. Bring along a craft to work on, and a couple of dollars for coffee / tea / hot chocolate and you'll be ready to rock and roll!

Please note that the Oakleigh RSL is strictly non BYO food.

RSVP by 5th of June 2010 especially if you would like needles and yarn brought for you! You can RSVP by commenting on this post, or by emailing me at petite.valse (at) gmail.com

Canberra :: 29 May :: Crochet

Hellooo-hoo Canberra owls!!

Our next meet is very nearly upon us – next Saturday the 29th of May!!!
Due to popular request, this month’s theme is crochet!

Whether you’re a newbie, or an old….ahem, experienced hand with the hook, it will be lovely to get together and catch up.
If you are new to the hook, have a look at some of the vast wealth of online resources, such as this or this. There are even videos like this, if you want to get a flying start.

Even though Prefect Michelle can’t be with us this month, she’s offered to write us up some instructions for a ripple rug, and we’ll bring along some books and other resources for granny squares (who doesn’t love a granny?).

All you need to bring is some yarn and an appropriately sized crochet hook.
If you’re a total beginner, 8ply yarn and a 4mm hook should do it!
You can get a hook from a yarn store, Lincraft or Spotlight, or even BigW - if you’re having trouble or need more info on supplies, let us know!

As usual, please RSVP in the comments - it would be great if you could let us know if you’re a total beginner or an old hooker (awww, come on, I've got to get one crass joke in there!!).

Of course it’s the usual deal with the venue - $6 to cover the room hire, and bring a plate to share for afternoon tea if you feel so inclined. We’ll bring the tea and coffee and get there early to put the heaters on!

See you on Saturday!

xo George, Naomi, Michelle & Bron =)
